Configuring desktop apps to use multiple proxies / PAC files

Q: My studio infrastructure includes multiple HTTP proxies where routes are selected based on PAC (Proxy Auto-Configuration) files. How can I use Shotgun’s desktop applications with this sort of setup?

A: Shotgun’s desktop applications can be configured to use a single HTTP proxy endpoint for network access and do not support PAC files. We recommend using an intermediate proxy forwarder running on the local host which is able to handle routing and if necessary authentication for the upstream proxies. Two solutions which meet these requirements are Px or gontlm-proxy. Both options support PAC files and Windows Security Support Provider Interface (SSPI) for transparent authentication with upstream proxies. Once the proxy forwarder is running, configure Shotgun desktop applications to use this local endpoint as a standard HTTP proxy.
