Custom protocol handler: how to suppress xdg-open on Centos?

Hi,

recently Chrome decided to pop up a “open in xdg-open” dialog every time I use one of my AMIs. This is a recent change in behaviour and I can’t find a way to bypass this. Does anybody have advise on this?
Chrome Version 79.0.3945.117 (Official Build) (64-bit)
